Trevolt Takes Command of Deer Valley Cadets

On February 17, 2025, Cadet 1st Lt. James Trevolt assumed command of the cadets at Deer Valley Composite Squadron. Trevolt has been a CAP cadet since January 2019. Past leadership positions have included serving as cadet first sergeant and a cadet leadership education officer. He earned the Billy Mitchell Award and his promotion to cadet 2nd lieutenant in December 2023.

He replaces Cadet Maj. Colin Mason who relinquished command in the traditional flag-passing ceremony in front of cadets, adult members, and cadet parents. Mason earned the Amelia Earhart Award and promotion to cadet captain in May 2023. The Earhart Award marks completion of Phase III of the CAP Cadet Program, recognizing sustained excellence in all four areas of cadet life: leadership, aerospace, fitness, and character.

In July 2023, Mason graduated from Cadet Officer School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, where Civil Air Patrol's national headquarters is located. In Sept. 2023, Mason assumed command of the cadets at Squadron 302. After relinquishing command, he continues to serve the squadron as cadet deputy commander for support.
